The Stone Cold Roosters are a group of Vermont musicians who get together at least a couple of times a month to enjoy playing music together. The emphasis is on swing, alt country, honky tonk, blues and roots music generally but the boys common rock and roll roots are always just below the surface. You are reading the Roosters blog which also functions as their website. See you in the Honky Tonks!
The Stone Cold Roosters are about to record their second CD this January.
We’ve been hard at work putting some new songs together and we hope you will be surprised and delighted. The themes include love, loss, redemption, waking up naked in a bar and other classic country material. We’re excited about it and plan to have it out by Summer 2009.
We’re at On The Rise in Richmond, Vermont on Saturday, January 31 at 8 PM. We love playing there, a great listening room, nice people and temptatious vittles. That’s cowpoke for Good Food.
Two gigs this week. First, this Thursday (6/4) we’ll be at On The Rise Bakery in beautiful Richmond, VT. Then Friday night we’ll be in Burke, VT at theBase Lodge where we will be doing a concert the Hunger Mountain Boys.
The Roosters will be at The Black Door Bar and Bistro this Friday night. It’s a great intimate location. Come on out and strut your stuff! It’s located at 44 Main St. in Montpelier.
We have no idea! But if you’re curious you can find out this Friday night, April 25th at the Skunk Hollow Tavern in Hartland Four Corners, Vermont. The Roosters play from 9 til 12:30 or so and there will be twang. See you there!
We are thrilled that Art Edelstein and the Montpelier Times Argus editorial staff awarded the Roosters a Tammie Award for Best Country album in 2007. Here is the citation:
The Stone Cold Roosters produced “Out Of the Woods” and it wins this award. This sextet has successfully melded Western Swing, Country, Honky-tonk, and Blues into a very listenable, danceable and sometimes comical album. The band, led by East Montpelier’s Colin McCaffrey, works these several musical elements easily into its 12-song set.
McCaffrey plays guitar, fiddle and mandolin on this CD, and sings. He also wrote several of the songs. He is joined by Thal Aylward on fiddle, Chuck Eller on keyboards, Roy Cutler on drums and vocals, Jim Pitman on steel guitar, Casey Dennis on bass, and Ted Mortimer on guitar ad vocals. This is essentially an all-star cast. The band seems to be bent on one thing, having fun. The fast songs swing and the lyrics are catchy. Cut seven, “Happy As A Pig In S**t” is one of the funnier tunes to come out of this genre.
For this, their first recording, the Roosters deserve an award.
